Nassau Men's Wrestling Star Joseph Mattei Selected as SUNY Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Joseph Mattei, of the Nassau Community College men's wrestling team, was named the SUNY Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was the sophomore leader on the 2025 Nassau CC team that finished third in the country at the NJCAA National Championship and as National Runner-Up in the country in 2024.
In both years, Mattei reached the round of 16 at the NJCAA National Championship and rallied to finish in the top 8 in the consolation round, just missing a chance at the semi-final matches. Joseph earned the title of the NJCAA Northeast District Champion for his weight class in back-to-back years for 2024 and 2025. Mattei excels in his sport and academic pursuits, earning the NJCAA's highest academic honor, NJCAA All-Academic First Team with a 4.0 GPA in 2024, and is poised to earn this prestigious honor again in 2025.
Majoring in accounting and business administration, Mattei has an overall GPA of 4.0.
