Region 15 Athletes of the Month for October

NEW YORK – Region 15 is proud to announce its Athletes of the Month for October. 

  • Division I Women's Soccer: Wiktoria Mikrut (Monroe University - New Rochelle)
  • Division III Women's Volleyball: Cherlialix Carmona (Monroe University – Bronx)
  • Division I Men's Soccer: Junyoung Park (Monroe University – New Rochelle)
  • Division I Men's Cross Country: Nkanyezi Ziqubu (Monroe University – New Rochelle)
  • Division II Women's Volleyball: Adriana Garcia (Monroe University – New Rochelle)
  • Division III Men's Soccer: Salim Anas (Monroe University – Bronx)
  • Division III Women's Volleyball *Honorable Mention*: Beatriz Vidal (Fashion Institute of Technology)

Mikrut and Carmona earn their second consecutive Region 15 Athlete of the Month honor.

For Mikrot, she scored 13 goals in October and currently leads all NJCAA Division I players in goals scored this year.

Carmona slammed 218 kills during the month and led the Express to its fourth consecutive district title, as well as a berth in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. She was also named the Region 15 Division III Women's Volleyball Player of the Year. 

Park scored three goals and provided an assist in four matches this past month.

Ziqubu earned three first-place finishes in October and broke the 8k-course record at the St. Joseph's University – Long Island Invitational, at Sunken Meadows State Park, back on October 18. He completed the race in 26:10.34.

Garcia helped the Mustangs earn a 25-match winning streak in October by tallying 95 kills during that stretch.

Anas netted five goals, including a hat trick at Dutchess Community College on October 21, while adding three assists this past month.

Vidal had a strong October with 104 kills and 115 digs which helped lead FIT to the district title match.
