Results of Region 15 Basketball Teams in NJCAA Championship Tournaments
NEW YORK – Six Region 15 basketball teams competed in five different NJCAA Tournaments during March.
In Division I men's basketball, nationally ranked No. 13 Monroe University – New Rochelle earned a spot in NJCAA Tournament that took place in Hutchinson, Kansas. In the first round, the Mustangs defeated nationally ranked No. 20 Mineral Area College, 77-72, on March 21. Two days later, the Mustangs fell short in a heartbreaker to No. 4 Trinity Valley Community College, 78-75, in overtime.
In the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship in Danville, Illinois, Orange County Community College won the first round over Prince George's Community College, 80-78, on March 16. Two days later, the Colts fell short in its Final 16 matchup against top-ranked Palm Beach State, 88-66. Orange County bounced back to defeat Mid Michigan College in the first consolation game, 103-91, on March 19. The next day, the Colts concluded the season with a 95-74 loss to Lansing Community College.
During the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship in Lake Charles, La., the Monroe University – New Rochelle women's basketball team fell to nationally ranked No. 12 Three Rivers Community College, 87-61, on March 25.
The NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship took pace in Brownwood, Texas. Both Monroe University – Bronx and Bronx Community College qualified for the Tournament.
The Express lost a hard-fought game in overtime to Fulton-Montgomery Community College, 64-63, on March 12. One day later, Monroe – Bronx put up a strong comeback attempt but fell in its consolation game to Onondaga Community College, 59-53.
The Broncos were defeated in the opening round of the national tournament to Onondaga, 72-55, on March 11. The next day, Bronx bounced back to win a thrilling consolation matchup against Rowan College of South Jersey – Gloucester, 70-68.
In the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship held in Herkimer, New York, Dutchess Community College dropped its first-round matchup to Dallas College – Richland, 63-58, on March 11. One day later, the Falcons fell in their consolation game to Montgomery County Community College, 84-74.
