Region 15 Athletes and Pitchers of the Month For March
NEW YORK – Region 15 has announced its Athlete and Pitcher of the Month recipients for the month of March. The winners are below.
Division I Women's Basketball: Hellary De Los Santos (Monroe University – New Rochelle)
De Los Santos led the Mustangs in points (39) and points per game (19.5) in the month of March. She helped the Mustangs capture the Mid-Atlantic District Championship as she scored 29 points in the Mustangs 85-69 victory over Harford Community College.
NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball: Naceiar Kirksey (Monroe University - New Rochelle)
Kirksey led the Mustangs in points (81), scoring average (20.3 points per game), field-goal attempts (70), and field-goals made (28) in the month of March. He tallied double-digit points in all his games in March including two double-digit performances at the NJCAA DI National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. His 18 points against Mineral Area College guided the Mustangs to advancing to the second round of the tournament.
Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field: Modou Sanneh (Monroe University – New Rochelle)
Sanneh earned NJCAA First Team All-America recognition in the men's 400 meters. Sanneh posted one of the top marks in the NJCAA this season and was among the national leaders throughout the indoor campaign. His strong performances helped the Mustangs remain competitive at major meets leading into the national championships. Sanneh highlighted a terrific finish to the indoor season for the Mustangs, placing seventh overall with a time of 46.91 in the 400 meters at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. His performance also earned him USTFCCCA First-Team All-American status.
Men's Volleyball: Thomas Wildeman (Nassau Community College)
Wildeman helped lead Nassau to an 8-2 month, and 6-0 in regional play, finishing out the Region 15 regular season undefeated. He totaled 92 kills, hitting .272, along with 44 service aces and 76 digs. Wildeman currently leads the region in kills and service aces per set.
Division III Women's Basketball Athlete of the Month: Destiny Davis (Bronx Community College)
During four contests in the month of March, Davis put together strong numbers, averaging 16 points, seven assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. She also connected on 42.3 percent of her shots from the floor. She helped lead the Broncos to a berth in the NJCAA Championship Tournament. Bronx Community College earned a win over Rowan College of South – Jersey – Gloucester, 70-68, in the consolation game.
Division III Men's Lacrosse: Luke Hartman (Nassau Community College)
Hartman scored six goals with seven assists this month, along with 16 ground balls.
Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field: Jeremaiyh Burch (Nassau Community College)
Burch took first place in the 400M at the Big Hurt Meet hosted by St. John's, setting a meet record with a time of 49.49. He also helped Nassau's 4x400M relay team take first place with a time of 3:28.90.
Division III Softball (Athlete): Tiara Desanto (Monroe University – Bronx)
Desanto produced a .409 batting average with 18 hits, 11 runs batted in, 16 runs, four doubles, one triple, and a home run. She stole 10 bases out of 11 attempts and walked nine times in March. The first-year infielder also produced 16 putouts and 21 assists during the month.
Division III Softball (Pitcher): Brianny Estepan (Monroe University – Bronx)
Estepan earned a complete-game victory over Bucks County Community College and struck out six batters during that contest. She fanned 25 batters during the month of March.
Division III Baseball (Athlete): Pablo Aquino (Monroe University – Bronx)
Aquino hit .439 during the month of March. He hit five home runs, drove in 16 RBIs, scored 21 times, hit three triples, drilled two doubles, and stole 11 bases. The sophomore center fielder led the Express to an 8-4 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in regional play during the month.
Division III Baseball (Pitcher): Frangel Rodriguez (Monroe University – Bronx)
Rodriguez went 3-0 for the Express in March and pitched two complete games, including a shutout complete-game victory over NJCAA Division II Rockland Community College. He struck out 19 batters and had an earned run average of 0.95 during the month. Rodriguez gave up just 13 hits, four walks, and two runs in March.
