No. 6 Suffolk County Drops Both Games of Northeast District Series to No. 9 Northern Essex; Can Still Earn At-Large Bid to NJCAA Baseball World Series

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The nationally ranked No. 6 Suffolk County Community College baseball team dropped both games of its Northeast District Series to nationally ranked No. 9 Northern Essex Community College, this past weekend. Both games were played at the St. Joseph's University Outdoor Field Complex in Patchogue, N.Y.

Game 1's score was 5-4. The game was tied at 4-4 heading to the top of the ninth inning, but the Knights (32-8) broke the tie thanks to a sacrifice fly by Manny Castro. The Sharks were retired in the bottom of the ninth which clinched a 1-0 series lead for Northern Essex.

Game 2's final was 14-11. Suffolk County had a 7-2 advantage heading to the bottom of the fourth, but Northern Essex exploded with 11 runs in the frame to take the lead for good, on its way to clinching a berth in the NJCAA Baseball World Series for the fourth year in a row.

Suffolk County will now wait to see if the program earned an at-large berth in the NJCAA Baseball World Series. The selection show will take place on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. on the NJCAA Network. The national baseball tournament will begin on Saturday, May 24, at Falcon Park in Auburn, N.Y.

The Sharks are currently 40-14 this year and won the Region 15 Championship to earn a berth in the Northeast District Series.
