New Orleans, Louisiana – The Monroe College Mustangs men's cross country and track and field team took home the 2023 USTFCCCA NJCAA Co-Academic Team of the Year Award as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. Additionally, 12 Mustang men and 10 Mustang women were named USTFCCCA NJCAA All-Academic Athletes, while the Monroe Mustangs women's cross country and track and field team earned All-Academic Team qualification.

The Mustang men accumulated a team grade-point average of 3.46 for the 2022-23 academic year. This GPA topped the list of qualifying NJCAA teams for the USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Team award, matching Iowa Western Community College for the highest cumulative GPA. The Mustangs men's team has had a recent run of academic recognition, as the men's cross country and men's indoor track and field teams claimed the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors in 2020-21 and 2021-22, while the men's outdoor track and field team won the award in 2021-22.

The Mustang women faced a high level of academic competition this season, placing fourth overall with a 3.50 cumulative team GPA for the 2022-23 academic year. Like the men's program, the women's teams also have an impressive history of academic team awards, with all three teams having won numerous NJCAA Academic Team of the Year awards in recent history.

A total of 22 student-athletes across the Mustangs men's and women's track and field programs were named All-Academic Athletes by the USTFCCCA on Thursday, earning a GPA of 3.40 or greater in the winter semester (indoor and outdoor track and field season):
