Nassau Men's Wrestling Takes Home Invitational Title

Over the weekend, the Nassau Men's Wrestling team competed in the Region XV Invitational. They went head to head with two highly respected teams, Sullivan and Ulster.
Up first was Ulster. Nassau made quick work and defeated them, 36-18. Sullivan was next and the Lions dominated putting them away, 52-6. With the two wins, NCC came away with the invitation title.
Individually, Anthony Sobotker won Most Outstanding Wrestler of the invitational. He took 1st overall in his weight class in both matches. Other stand out individuals were Lucus Pincus, Gavin Leath, Brian Torres, AJ Batista and Mo Hernandez who all placed 1st in their classes. Tyler Lynda, Mohammed Alkaifi and Nate Lennon took home 2nd place spots in their respective weight class.
We met up with Head Coach Paul Schmidt after the Lions competed. He commented, "I am very proud of the performance of our guys. They came ready to wrestle and always embrace the grind. They prepare themselves daily and it showed today. Come Monday - we get to work for Districts."
The District Championships are in Jamestown, New York on Saturday, February 16th.
