FIT Dominates at Region XV Women's Tennis Tournament
Fashion Institute of Technology swept all events at this past weekends Region XV Women's Tennis Tournament, which was held at Suffolk Community College. FIT went a perfect 9-0 sweeping both the doubles and singles respectively to earn the maximum 18 points. Second-place Suffolk finished in second with 7 points, Kingsborough finished with 2 points, and Nassau finished with 0 points.
In the first, second, and third doubles match, Fashion dominated Suffolk, winning all three matches easily. In the first match, Nicole Druzhinsky and Kiana Brooks won 6-1, 6-1. Nadya Zelenova and Maia Sepulveda won easily in second doubles by a score of 6-2. 6-0. Finally, in third doubles, FIT won again 7-5, 6-0.
Fashion won all six singles matches with ease as well. In the first flight, Nicole Druzhinskly won easily 6-2, 6-1. The second singles matchup between Kiana Brooks and Natasha Solovyov saw FIT lose its only set of the day.Brooks lost the first set 4-6, However she went on to win the next two sets 6-1 and 6-4. Nadya Zelenova, Alexandra Krynyckyi, Maia Sepulveda and Michelle Sparrow won singles titles at 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th singles respectively.
With their success, FIT's Lynn Cabot was named Coach of the Year while Nicole Druzhinsky was named Player of the Year.
