Headley Leads No. 20 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Cross Country to Region 15 Title

KINGS PARK, N.Y., October 15, 2022 – Aaliyah Headley was the top finisher for the No. 20-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's cross country team that claimed the 2022 NJCAA Region 15 Div. I Championship on Saturday, as the championship meet ran simultaneously with the SJNY Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's University-New York at Sunken Meadow State Park.
 
As the 2022 Region 15 Div. I Champions, the Mustangs automatically qualify for the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Cross Country Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. This marks the Mustangs' ninth straight Region 15 Championship.

Headley ran a personal-best 5K time on Saturday at 20:09.06. Her time earned her a third-place finish in the overall meet, which included 145 total runners. Headley also earns first place in the Region 15 Championship.
 
Kayla Johnson was not far behind, taking a 13th-place finish (second in region) with a time of 21:40.47. Janeisy Camilo was next with a time of 27:09.13 to place third in the region. Vegonia Jean Baptiste took fourth place in the region at 29:47.35. Yanise Gallo placed fifth in Region 15 at 39:13.98.
 
The Mustangs are on the road next weekend for their final meet of the regular season. They head down to Charlotte, N.C. to compete at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Classic beginning at 5 p.m.
