Nassau Men's Volleyball Earns Berth in National Invitational Championship Match
Three Region 15 teams, Nassau Community College, Monroe University - New Rochelle, and Monroe University - Bronx, competed in the National Men's Volleyball Invitational on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College on April 4-6.
The second-seeded Lions dropped the first match of the double-elimination tournament to seventh-seeded Northampton Community College (3-0) but rallied to advance to the National Invitational Championship Match. The Lions fell short the eventual champion and top-seeded College of DuPage, 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-13, 25-22).
In between the first loss and the championship appearance, Nassau defeated eighth-seeded Monroe University - Bronx (3-0), third-seeded Monroe University - New Rochelle (3-1), fifth-seeded Bryant & Stratton College (Wisc.) (3-0), fourth-seeded Finger Lakes Community College (3-1), and sixth-seeded Union College N.J. (3-0).
Nassau had to defeat DuPage twice in order to win the championship since the Chaps went undefeated on their way to the title match, but the Lions fell short in the first matchup of the championship round.
The Mustangs lost in the quarterfinals to Union (3-0) and then were eliminated from the double-elimination tournament by the Lions (3-1). However, Monroe - New Rochelle won the seventh-place match over 10th-seeded Middlesex College in straight sets.
The Express lost in the first round to ninth-seeded Passaic County Community College, 3-1, and fell in straight sets to the Lions to end their bid in the double-elimination tournament. Monroe then fell to the Panthers again, 3-1, in the ninth-place match.
The three Region 15 teams will return to the volleyball court in January of 2026.
